A valiant effort.....

Kids: 10 ways to entertain young children for $1 or less (without the TV) - Lifehacker

Go to fullsize image

I love the lifehacker.. big time. I have been reading them for a couple of years and they without a doubt are good for at least 3 to 5 solid posts. This one is not bad, some of the comments are pretty good as well, but the one that got to me was the one tha said to teach them "hold em" since it teaches them good life skills. Go to disagree there buddy, I just don't want to see a 10 year old playing at the felt table. I would much prefer to get them a soccer ball or a wiffle ball set.

When will google cease being google and become a higher being..

Google Uses Crowdsourcing To Create Maps In India
hyperabad india map

Tell me that this is not the scariest thing of all time.  Google is 'mapping' cities by having people walk around with GPS that feed into google maps.  Fantastic.. this is just what the world needs.. add ot this the fact that they have cars doing doing 'street views' all over th place as well.

The reminds me of the South Park spisode I saw last night where Wall-Mart takes over South Park.. and there was nothing they could do about it.  Once Google get the gPhone out there, my bet is that this software will be in it.. anyone will be able to see where you are at all times... and when you walk by a Borders, your phone will ring with a Adsense ad for you.. not that I am complaining, if they "give" it away.. I am all for it.

Internet <> TV

Is the Internet the fifth major TV network? | last100

Umm.. unless you use BitTorrent, this is not case. Youtube is 10% decent stuff, the other 90% is garbage or even worse spam.

BitTorrent on the other hand rules when it comes to TV especially if you have a way to watch whatever you have on you HDTV (I highly reccomend Media Portal, free and highly extendable). I currently can take my laptop and put in into my HDTV via VGA and watch whatever I have. The networks (and I mean all of them, not just the big 3, I am talking cartoon network though the DIY network) should allow their shows to be torrented and watched truly onm demand. My feeling is that the overhead has already been covered by the broadcast, put some advertising around the torrent (30-60 seconds max.. ) and let the users have at it. This is not going to go away, so the more coprorate people embrace it, the better. Joost has potential, but I find the interface pretty confusing, and I am sorry the content is not there for me yet.

Got to get going on this..

Hometime - How-To - Project Help - Basement Construction

Ok, This is a pretty good little artile about starting upo a basement remodel;. My house is old, not colonial old, but old enough that my basement is low and not really useable as "living space", but I may look into making it useable by myself for watching football, working on models and the like. I think the main issue (other than moving an insane amount of crap out of there) I am going to have is water. Someone back in the day had the great idea of putting in blacktop next to the foundation in the backyard which when it rains, becomes a runway though the windos into the basement. Guess it maybe time to rent this again!!! I had a back ache for a couple days after the last time.

Telecommuting.. the future unless people need to see you to think you are working

Web Worker Daily » Blog Archive Yet Another Reason to Build a Case for Telecommuting «

There are a myriad of reasons to work form home, both either for yourself or for your real job. With the pricing of commuting going through the roof (gas, toll, car repairs, etc) the reasons are many. However, when :I work from home, there I days that I think I have had a really productive day, but others do not think I did anything. This is the risk one takes in order to either, save cash, or raise one's quality of life. If you are career driven , working from home on a consistent basis can hurt you. Your boss does not know what you are doing, your clients/customers think you are sitting by the pool working (which in reality would that even matter given that you get your work done?), and stuff passes you by. And there is the social aspect of office environment, it does pay to make friends with certain people, and that is hard to do form your home office.

I say all of this as I sit (working) at my kitchen table), but one must weigh the pros and cons. I for one feel that i should make every effort to get into the office everyday, even if it is only for a couple of hours just so people know I am there.

Life without Coffee = nothing getting done (at least for me)

Ask Lifehacker Readers: Kicking the caffeine habit - Lifehacker Kicking caffeine - Lifehacker As the 1st post to this new blog what would be better than a link to a post at the almighty lifehacker. I am not one to ever bring up giving up caffine, there is no way that I could make it through the day without it. I am talking somewhere in the neighborhood of 5-6 8oz cups a day. Is that too much? At least I drink it back, and not with mountains of sugar and cream.

Anway, what is the point of this blog? Well, there is not one really, except that I am cinstantly on the web all day (when not doing my real work) and I constantly see good posts, articles and links on how to get stuff done, cool applications, cool TV shows and the like, and I thought I would just through them out there for eveyone to see, as well as to keep them organized for myself. :I also just downloaded Flock and I want to see if it is good for this purpose.
